The Hidden Secret of the Hawk & Buckle

The manhole cover is set into a layer of concrete with an embedded steel grid for additional strength.

It is still possible to open the well and view this wonderful example of well construction

But for now you will have to provide your own light.

A commemorative photo montage is on display in the lounge bar of the hawk and it is hoped to provide a similar one for the bar in due course.
